S President Donald Trump's second term in office has brought significant changes to
international politics: traditional negotiating patterns are being disrupted, multilateral
commitments are being questioned, and foreign policy is being instrumentalized for do-
mestic political purposes. Over the past decade, populism has not only challenged de-
mocracies internally but has also altered the very framework of foreign policy. The panel
discussion will explore the consequences of self-centered leaders replacing "corrupt eli-
tes" in the name of "the people" - and how this affects the global order. A new EU-funded
doctoral network on the "International Dimensions and Effects of Populism" (IDEoPOP),
coordinated at the University of Freiburg, is dedicated to this topic. At the opening con-
ference, leading international scholars will publicly discuss the most important findings
of the past decade and their significance for the coming years. Quelle: Veranstalter
