Vox Aurea
Our choir Vox Aurea was founded in 1968 and is the representative choir of the basic education choir in the Finnish city of Jyväskylä. Vox Aurea has maintained its high standard as one of the best choirs in Finland and is also internationally recognized. In addition to concert performances and tours, we have participated in various national and international choir competitions and won prizes and released several recordings representing the diversity of choral music. Our choir consists of 50 singers between the ages of 11 and 18. The high musical level of Vox Aurea is based on the work of the extended music education at schools in Jyväskylä, which is valued and actively developed in the choir community. In addition to choral education, we focus on local, national and international cooperation and open new channels for Finnish and international choral music. Commissioning choral works from contemporary composers is an integral part of our work. The latest recording »Pato«, which was released in December 2020 is therefore a collection of compositions that Vox Aurea commissioned in the 2010s. Cooperation with youth choirs from different countries is an essential part of our activities. Such an exchange of music and experiences has broadened our repertoire, improved our understanding of the diversity and place of choral music position in different cultures and has further developed the choir´s pedagogical and strategic practices. The experimental approach to holistic expression and a warm team spirit are core components of our identity.
