Sehnsucht - 5. Abonnementkonzert
SWDKO / Äeneas Humm, Bariton / Douglas Bostock Sonntag, 28. April 2024, 19.00 Uhr 18.00 Uhr: Konzerteinführung mit Chefdirigent Douglas Bostock Äneas Humm, Bariton Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim Douglas Bostock, Leitung Sehnsucht Hommage an Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951) anlässlich seines 150. Geburtstages Claude Debussy (1862-1918) / Arr. Schönberg: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951): Zehn frühe Walzer für Streichorchester Alexander Zemlinsky (1871-1942) / Arr. Erwin Stein & Andreas Tarkmann: Drei Gesänge nach Texten von Maurice Maeterlinck op. 13 Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) / Arr. Erwin Stein: Berceuse élégiaque op. 42 Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) / Arr.

***** »I've been trying to make peace with death,« smiles Jacob Allen, the singer-songwriter, producer and poet better known as Puma Blue, bashfully aware of the abstract stateliness his avowal holds. »It's horrible and it's painful. I'd never say that it isn't. Yet at the same time, the process of it all can be beautiful.« Death nestles like a sweet creature at the heart of »Holy Waters«, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021's »In Praise of Shadows«. It's less a morbid study in mortality, more a chronicle of the graciousness within each repeated cycle of life, death and rebirth, arriving eventually at a gentle affirmation to himself, to the listener, at the album's close, to keep going, »don't let the dark take you whole«. It's the hope-tinged bleakness that gets you. Recorded with his live band over the course of two visits to Eastbourne's Echo Zoo Studios, »Holy Waters« also marks a sharp departure from the solo bedroom productions of early EP releases, 2017's »Swum Baby« and 2018's »Blood Loss«, an isolated approach that was later enforced upon his debut album during lockdown. Collaboration has been creeping into Jacob's other work recently, too, fresh from production and writing credits on Loyle Carner's latest album »Hugo«, alongside an impressive list of co- writes with Biig Piig, Mahalia, and Lava La Rue among others. The dopamine rush flushes into »Holy Waters«, confidence transposed: »It makes me proud; instead of that awkward thing of admiring your own reflection, or being embarrassed by your own reflection, the music has also become a reflection of the people I love.« Along with mix engineer Sam Petts-Davies (The Smile, Warpaint), there was an expression they kept returning to whilst putting the finishing touches to »Holy Waters«; every element should sound like the loudest element. A joy permeates each sonic corner as a result, the studio techniques more analogue and experimental than his previous work, but sounding fuller, richer, killing what ego was left in Puma Blue and paying their band-centric debts proudly. Inspired still by luminaries from Jeff Buckley to Björk, more important to »Holy Waters« was Portishead's inexplicable marriage of a live band and production, and the improvisational work of Can and Hendrix. This is an album that can be devoured late at night with headphones as much as it can be blasted on the open road. Featuring Harvey Grant on saxophone, keys and co-production, Cameron Dawson on bass, Ellis Dupuy on drums and Luke Bower on guitar, there's a distinct irony that an album reckoning with an all-encompassing loneliness was built upon such strong foundations of friendship. It's a togetherness that hurricanes around the first single 'Hounds', mutating Jacob's Buckley- esque croon - »I'll find myself alone again« - into an unfurling post-rock brawl, where guitar flurries lock in and out of machismo bass, and brass bluster daggers into the night like a Kraut-kissed Pink Floyd on their psychedelic comedown. It's a musical friendship that gently teases Allen's anxieties and embraces his sadness; on the aching 'Mirage', a heart-wrenching ode to the death of a schoolfriend, guitars and synths adherently crescendo to insulate his ending wails. Good friends are there when you need them.

Screening and Artist Talk: The Progress of Technology and The Technological Savage
Tian Gebing, born in 1963 in Xi'an, has been a prominent figure in China's independent theater scene since the 1990s. His exploration of alternative performance forms began during his studies at the Central Theater Academy, where he connected with Beijing's independent theater community. In 1997, he founded the »Paper Tiger Theater Studio,« a collaborative platform involving artists from various disciplines and social backgrounds. Gebing's work centers on depicting the immediate realities of Chinese society and innovating contemporary theater forms. From 2010, he increasingly embraced transcultural theater practices, leading to collaborations with international theaters such as the Münchner Kammerspiele and Stary Teatr Krakow. Notable productions include »Totally Happy« (2014), »Dekalog« (2016), and »500 Meters« (2017). Since 2019, he has resided in Berlin, directing projects like »Her Face,« a performance held in private apartments, showcasing his ongoing commitment to experimental and transcultural theater.

The Ghost Inside - Searching For Solace Tour
The Ghost Inside Announce "Searching For Solace European Tour" in October and November This Year The Ghost Inside has announced European Tour in support of their forthcoming album 'Searching For Solace.' The three-week tour is scheduled to begin on October 18th in Paris and will include dates in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands Austria and more. Please see below for the full list of dates. The band's sixth album 'Searching For Solace,' is set for digital release on April 19th, followed by the LP/CD release on June 7th. The album provides a comprehensive portrayal of the band's history, current state, and future, encapsulating the highs and lows of their journey. It arrives at a pivotal moment in The Ghost Inside's lives. Nearly a decade after the devastating bus crash that altered their path forever, vocalist Jonathan Vigil, guitarists Zach Johnson and Chris Davis, bassist Jim Riley, and drummer Andrew Tkaczyk have gained a profound understanding of inner peace. Embracing the notion that "it's the journey, not the destination," this theme is intricately woven throughout album. Merging metalcore's proficiency with punk's urgency, Searching For Solace features production from Dan Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker) who took the reins on most of the record, with other tracks handled by Cody Quistad (Wage War), Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (August Burns Red, Bloodywood). Building a bridge between more aggressive sounds and thoughtful messaging, the album boasts the most fundamental elements of The Ghost Inside: honesty, vulnerability, the message, and the melody. Unafraid to embrace darker themes and expanded sonic landscapes, Searching for Solace is a quintessential entry to The Ghost Inside's catalog.

JÖRDIS TIELSCH - NEW MORNINGS
Other Side Of The World«. Your Fears«, »It's Alright«). The River Is Me«, »Call Out The Sun«).
